Control Groups (Flexible task grouping) |
||
| Abstract | Control groups is a new subsystem recently added to the Linux Kernel. It allows us to build complex applications by grouping arbitrary tasks together. It is currently used to build among others containers, resource management and hardwalled partitions (cpusets). Control groups expose a file system interface and no standard UI, since diverse applications have diverse UI needs. libcgroup (libcg.sf.net) builds a programmable interface for control groups In this session we'll look at Open challenges, problems in control groups for participants to tackle and own. These problems vary from the kernel components (like transaction management for cgroups, user space notification) to more complex problems to be solved in user space in libcgroup |

| Speaker Profile | Balbir Singh has been working with Open Source technology since college days. In the recent past he has contributed heavily to the control groups project and built the memory controller. There are several other chunks of code that Balbir owns and maintains. Balbir enjoys learning new things, whether it is software or books or a new experience. Being lazy is his favourite pass time; that is when he gets most of his ideas. Balbir Singh has been invited to the kernel summit since the past two years and published several papers. | |
