| Abstract | The objective of the talk is to introduce the development of speech enabled accessible desktop applications for visually challenged users. Speech enabled applications has many other use other than accessibility-like Audio books, entertainment, Kiosk, IVRs etc.. Talk will be focused on enabling accessibility on gtk based applications using ATK, and a discussion on Dhvani- The indian language Text to Speech system and its APIs[2]. | Speaker Profile | Santhosh is a FOSS developer and activist from Kerala. He is project admin of Swathanthra Malayalam Computing. He contributes to the following FOSS projects in free time a) Dhvani - Indian Language Text to Speech system. lead developer and maintainer b) Swanalekha - Developer- Transliteration based Input Method for Malayalam-available in all distros now c) Aspell Malayalam-developer d) Contributes to L10N of Gnome, KDE, Debian e) Member- WWW-ML project f) Payyans- Ascii encoded data<->Unicode converter -developer g) Matrix screensaver in Indian language glyphs Santhosh is a winner of FOSS India Award 2008 by LFY magazine and NRCFOSS. In weekdays he is working as Technical Specialist in a leading IT company of India. | |
