Making Firefox Accessible |
||
| Abstract | For surfing the web, a web browser is needed. There are proprietary web browsers like Microsoft Internet Explorer and free software based browsers like Mozilla Firefox. Today a visually impaired person has almost equal access to the web with the help of accessibility technologies which work in tandem with these browsers. This presentation talks about the web accessibility framework of the Mozilla Firefox web browser and the Gnome-Orca screen reading software. The discussion will focus on how at-spi technology provides complete accessibility on the Gnome desktop and how the Mozilla accessibility framework, the at-spi and Orca work together. Mane will also show how the Orca screen reader presents information about a web page with all its links, headings, form fields and the status of the web page (loading, loaded or can't find). Each layer of accessibility will be briefly touched and we will see Firefox accessibility live. Last Mane will discuss the many ways contributors can help improve web accessibility even more, including resolving open bugs. |
