The Mozilla Project |
||
| Abstract | Mozilla is a global community of people working together to build a better Internet. Mozilla is rooted in open source software development, and has expanded to include many other activities based on the open source model of distributed action, peer review and influence through leadership. Mozilla is an enormous open source project in which everything depends on individual people who choose to work together. Individuals who choose to participate, to work together to write code, to test code, to provide support, outreach, evangelism, education, marketing and a range of other activities. At Mozilla we aim to provide the structures and systems (source repositories, issue-trackers, communications channels) that allow people to participate. Mozilla is best know for the Firefox web browser. Mozilla also hosts many other projects. These include the Thunderbird mail client, the Bugzilla issue tracker, and a calendar project. This talk will start by describing the Mozilla project, beginning with its fundamental nature as an open source project aimed toward benefiting the public, and including areas in which Mozilla strives to bring open source methods to new activities such as outreach and marketing. We'll talk about how people get involved in Mozilla, and what factors cause people to be successful and highly satisfied with their experience. We'll talk about how the Mozilla community makes Mozilla successful and how the community consistently expands the scope of the Mozilla project and our understanding of open source. The talk will include general approach and practical hints. |
