OpenMoko: What, why and how |
| Abstract | OpenMoko is a GNU/Linux based open software development platform. Developers have full access to OpenMoko source and they can tailor their implementations to underlying hardware platforms. This talk introduces the platform, and then gets hands-on with showing potential developers and contributors how they can get involved. Includes a discussion of the tools used, resources available and a "shopping list" of entry points for developers. |
| Pre-requisites | General understanding of development under GNU/Linux, including C/C++ and development tools such as gcc, gdb, etc. Exposure to embedded development and OpenEmbedded will be useful. | |
| Speaker Profile | Harald Welte has been a Linux User for the last 11 years, and a Linux Kernel developer since 2000. He is a member of the netfilter/iptables core team. His main interest in computing has always been networking. Apart from his work on kernel-level networking, he is also working on Free Software (and hardware) for RFID in the OpenPCD.org project, as well as Free Software for Smartphones at OpenEZX.org. He has been working as an independent IT Consultant working on projects for various companies ranging from banks to manufacturers of networking gear, as well as Linux distributors. He licenses his software under the terms of the GNU GPL. At his gpl-violations.org project, he is determined to bring all users, distributors, value added resellers and vendors of netfilter/iptables based products in full compliance with the GPL, even if it includes raising legal charges. | |
