Improving Mozilla Localizations

Abstract Axel Hecht (irc nick: Pike) is Mozilla's lead engineer for localization efforts. The ecosystem around Indic localizations of Mozilla Applications, most prominently Firefox, is rapidly evolving these days. Some Firefox localizations (Gujurati and Punjabi) will need to be updated for the release of Firefox 3. A host of languages are emerging for Firefox. Finally, localizations in various languages are in the in active development, but very well may be in beta by the December FOSS.IN Mozilla project day. Axel will demonstrate the life cycle of a bug in a Mozilla localization, covering testing, bug filing, patch creation, landing and testing. He will demonstrate various tools that help contributors to find the relevant source, edit it, and submit the changes back to the localization team. Because Mozilla has very specific requirements to meet the standards of shipping with new releases, Axel will take community members through the detailed patch review process. He will be there to answer any questions and help individuals locate & file bugs and submit patches.
