Project Days
From FOSS.IN/2007
This year, at FOSS.IN/2007, we decided to shake things up a bit. This year sees the inclusion of Project Days into the event.Contents |
[edit] What are Project Days?
To increase contributions from the Indian community and also help existing contributors meet, FOSS.IN will have 2 days completely dedicated to the major FOSS projects and their surrounding technologies. Each Project day will have multiple sessions where the session topics can range from developer tutorials to contributor FAQ's.
The Schedule and Agenda of Product Day is decided by the community of contributors and driven by the contributor community.
[edit] What is the structure of a Project Day?
Project days typically last one complete day. Each project day can have up to 7 one hour sessions. A sample proposal for a Project Day is furnished below.
Foo Day: The Foo day aims to increase Indian contribution in the Foo Project. The proposed schedule is as follows:
- Foo: Current status and future direction
- Want to get involved? Here is how!
- The Foo object system
- A few tips for a faster Foo
- Writing Foo applications in python
- The Foo scheduling system
- Fool proof Foo
[edit] When/Where Are The Project Days Happening at FOSS.IN?
Project Days are held on December 4-5 (Tuesday and Wednesday), before the start of the Main Conference (Thursday Dec 6 Onwards). Each Project Day will be a half or a full day in duration, and will be in any one of the halls at the Venue.
[edit] Who Can Propose a Project Day?
The Project Day must be proposed by an individual who is a representative of an Open Source project. The Individual must be prepared to spend quite a bit of time preparing an agenda for the Project Day, and remain in contact with the organizers of the event.
It is required for the proposer to be present at the Project Day.
[edit] How Do I Propose a Project Day?
[edit] Propose Project Day
Project Day proposals should be first discussed on the Mailing List, before being formally proposed to the main conference organisers using the Contact System. We encourage you to give as much detail about the agenda, and the schedule of the Project Day as possible. Read the Project Day Submissions guidelines for more details.
[edit] Committee Review
Team FOSS.IN will review the given proposal, and the selected proposers will be informed by email.
There will also be a public announcement of the dates of the various Project Days at the same time.
[edit] Application of Speakers
We require you to ensure that all the speakers submit slides for their talks as described in the Call for Participation. They will be given an option at the time of registration, to submit a talk for a specific Project Day. This list will be accessible by the Project Day proposer as the talks are submitted.
[edit] Submission of Schedule
After the registrations for speakers close, you will be asked to submit a draft of the schedule for the Project Day, to the same email you submitted your proposal to. We will then review your schedule and ask you to submit changes, if any.
[edit] Project Day
The Project Day will be of half day or full day in duration, in a single hall.
[edit] Responsibilities of the Project Day Proposer
Organisation of a Project Day is the complete responsibility of the Proposer. This includes, but is not limited to, inviting speakers for the Project Day, scheduling allotted time, and leading the Project Day.
FOSS.IN will only provide a venue to hold the Project Day, including AV equipment. Entry to the Project Day will be available to all those who have registered for the main conference.
The proposer must also ensure all handouts (if any) are approved by the organizers of the event.
The proposer must be present in person at the venue for the entire duration of the Project Day.
The schedule for the Project Day must be approved by the organisers of FOSS.IN. FOSS.IN reserves the right to cancel any part of a Project Day.
[edit] Handouts
The conference proposer may arrange to have handouts given out at the project day. Any handouts must be approved by the Conference Organizers, and must adhere to the following guidelines
- The handouts must be related to the project
- All handouts must be free from excessive branding by a sponsoring commercial entity.
- There cannot be any charge levied in exchange for any of the handouts
- All handouts must be approved by the FOSS.in organizing committee.
Further, the responsibility of distributing handouts remains with the proposer. We wish to remind the proposer that handouts such as t-shirts and CDs tend to be quite popular, so we hope you bring enough for everyone ;~)
[edit] Important Dates
Please Refer to the Call for Participation for important dates for speakers. The dates for submission of the first and final drafts of the schedule will be informed via email to the proposer.
[edit] Entry fee and Travel Support
Speakers at Project Days are afforded the same rights as regular speakers and may apply for travel support as prescribed in the Call for Participation, and are automatically registered, gratis, for the entire conference.
Project Day proposers who are not speakers however, may not apply for Travel support.
