Abstract FOSS in Agriculture, Science & Education - An example: will present an ongoing effort to build a botanical species identification system in linux using GTK, GCC and mysql. The application helps to identify the most common weed species for Rice-Wheat crop systems using visual interpretation of characters of a plant finally giving the botanical details of each species. A technique new to taxonomy itself, is now ported to FOSS, eventually to be deployed in field using simputers and local languages. Aims to help farmer groups, agri. extension workers and development workers on field.

Pre-requisites Science Students (Higher Sec school to PG), botany and taxonomy students/researchers.
technical: GTK, GCC, MySQL, Arm-linux, Simputer application development.
Foss in development (not s/w but social)
